After winning their first PSAC Western Division title since 2014, the Griffin baseball team earned honors from the PSAC on their All PSAC West Teams. The awards were released by the league on Tuesday afternoon and voted on by the head coaches.
Highlighting the awards were graduate student outfielder
Tommy Pellis who was named the PSAC West Athlete of the Year. Sophomore
Owen Sabol was named the PSAC West Rookie of the Year and head coach
Marc Marizzaldi was named the PSAC West Coach of the Year.
Seven members of the team earned All PSAC West honors with five first team all conference selections and two second team selections.
Pellis was named a first team All PSAC West selection as an outfielder. Joining Pellis on the first team as an outfielder is senior
Derek Orndorff. Senior
Tyler Peterson earned first team All PSAC honors at first base. Junior
Isaiah DiAndreth earned first team honors as an infielder. Senior
Jordan Fiedor was also a first team All PSAC selection as a designated hitter.
Sabol earned All PSAC Second Team honors as a shortstop while senior
Ben Vicini was named to the All PSAC second team as a starting pitcher.
Pellis leads the Griffins in nearly every offensive category. He is hitting .415 with 49 runs scored and 51 hits. Tommy is tied for the team lead with 14 homers and 40 RBI.
Sabol is second on the team with a .375 average. He added six doubles, one triple, four homers and 25 RBI. Owen leads the Griffins with 22 stolen bases.
Marizzaldi led the Griffins to their second PSAC Western Division title. They finished conference play with a 23-4 record and have advanced to the PSAC finals. Marizzaldi also earned his 600th career win this season.
Orndorff is third on the team with a .364 average. He is tied for the team lead with 14 homers and 40 RBi. Derek leads the Griffins with 2 triples and has added 16 stolen bases. Peterson finished the season with a .296 average. He added six doubles, two homers and 27 RBI. DiAndreth is fourth on the team with a .362 average. He is second with 39 RBI. Isaiah has added six doubles and six homers. Fiedor is hitting .318 on the season. He has added seven doubles, five homers and 23 RBI. Vicini is 4-1 on the season with a 3.99 ERA. In 47.1 innings, he has struck out 61 hitters while only walking seven.
