Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Griffin Comeback Falls Short in Loss to Millersville

In the opening game of a PSAC Crossover Weekend on their home floor, Seton Hill managed to trim a big Millersville lead down to single digits in the second half, but ran out of time, as the Marauders came away with a 75-63 victory Saturday.

It was the Griffins who took the early lead, as Jimmy Moon scored twice to start the game. Those was followed by hoops from Samuel Tabe and Drew Green and then a pair of three-pointers by Miles Monchecourt lifted SHU to a 14-10 advantage seven minutes into the game. Seton Hill ran cold over the next six minutes however, managing just two Moon free throws, as the Marauders used a 16-2 surge to build their largest lead of the half at 26-16 with 6:50 left before the break.

The Griffins kept the visitors within that range the rest of the half, as a jumper by Sean Dillon shortly before halftime brought Seton Hill within 36-28 at the break. Moon tallied 11 by halftime to lead the home team.

The start of the second half saw another cold stretch from the Griffins, as Millersville put together a 20-4 run over the opening nine minutes of the half and looked to be in control with a 56-32 lead. But the Griffins pushed on and gradually cut into their deficit. Tabe in particular heated up for Seton Hill, as he scored the final seven points in a 16-3 surge and his jumpers on consecutive possessions had SHU within 11 at 59-48 with just under seven minutes left.

After the Marauders scored three straight, Ryan Meis drilled a three and a short jumper on back-to-back trips down the court and Seton Hill was within nine at 62-53 with 3:50 remaining. Millersville would secure the win at the foul line down the stretch however, knocking down 13-of-16 from the charity stripe in the closing minutes to put the game away.

It was a balanced scoring effort from the Griffins in the game, led by Moon with 13. He was joined in double figures by Green, who hit for 11 and grabbed a team-high six rebounds and Monchecourt dropped in 10 points. A trio of Griffins finished with nine points, including Tabe, Dillon and Meis. Dillon also dished off a game-high six assists.

Seton Hill gets right back on the court tomorrow with their final game of the calendar year. Shepherd will come to the McKenna Center to take on the Griffins in a 3 pm tip-off.
