Seton Hill Ends Season with OT Win Over Edinboro

Seton Hill completed its 2021 season on a high note, as a goal by Alyssa Neast in the first overtime lifted the Griffins to a 3-2 victory over visiting Edinboro Saturday.

The opening goal was put on the board early in the match by the visiting Scots, as a score with just 3:37 off the clock put them in front 1-0. It would be the only goal of the half, although Seton Hill created eight shots and had three stopped.

In the second half, the Griffins finally capitalized on a pair of chances. In the 56th minute, Leah Policarpio played a ball into Corynna Rotoli, who slipped a shot past the Scot keeper for her third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. Less than two minutes, the Griffins took the lead. Edinboro tried to clear a Griffin corner out of the offensive zone, but the ball came to Julia Scarmardi, who unleashed a rocket of a shot from the top of the box that found the back of the net. Scamardi's first goal of the season put Seton Hill in front 2-1.

The Griffins looked like they would clamp down defensively to hang on for the win when a stroke of bad luck hit. In the 83rd minute, an attempted clear by the Griffins ended up in their own net and the own goal evened the score at 2-2. The Scots seized momentum after that through the end of regulation, as three of their four shots in the half came in the final five minutes. One attempt banged off the cross bar, another was wide and the third with 35 seconds to play was saved by Griffin keeper Lindsey Pazdziorko, sending the match into overtime.

There was only one shot attempt in the extra period, but it was the only one that mattered for the Griffins. In the 96th minute, Policarpio's corner sailed into the box. A battle for the ball ensued and Neast managed to deflect it into the goal for the game-winner and the first goal of the season for the Griffin senior.

Pazdziorko earned the win in goal, as she stopped three shots in the victory. The win was the third in a row and fourth in the last five games for Seton Hill. The strong run gave the Griffins a final record of 7-9-1 overall and 6-9-1 in the PSAC.
