WBB Drops Opener of Tri State Thanksgiving Classic to Tiffin

Seton Hill hosted Tiffin University to open the Tri State Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday afternoon at the McKenna Center.  After trailing by just two at the half, the Griffins were outscored by nine points in the second half in a 60-49 loss.  SHU falls to 3-3 overall while Tiffin improves to 2-2 overall.

The Griffins got off to a slow start from the floor as they trailed 8-0 before Madelyn Fischer hit a three pointer with 4:33 to play in the first quarter for the first Griffin basket of the contest.  A fastbreak layup from Christiane Frye and a basket from Joi Burleigh trimmed the Tiffin lead to 8-7 with 3:44 to play.  Tiffin scored the final five points of the quarter as they took a 12-7 lead.

Back to back baskets from Katie Nolan and a basket from Sonia Sarda gave the Griffins a 13-12 lead less than three minutes into the second quarter.  Tiffin scored the final three points of the quarter and took a 17-15 lead into the halftime break.

Both teams started to shoot the ball better in the second half and the scoring rate began to increase.  Tiffin pushed their lead to six early in the quarter before Courtney Tomas cut the lead in half with a three pointer.  Over the next five minutes, the Dragons went on a 16-5 run to take a 39-25 lead with a little more than two minutes to play in the quarter.  Two baskets from Frye cut the lead to 39-29 at the end of the quarter.

A layup from Nolan and a three pointer from Rena Enterline cut the lead to 44-37 just over two minutes into the quarter.  The Dragons pushed their lead to as many as 15 and the Griffins got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Nolan led the Griffins with another double double of 12 points and 13 rebounds.  Sarda and Frye each missed double figures by scoring nine points.  Burleigh finished with seven.

The Griffins will meet Salem in the final contest of the Tri State Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday afternoon at 3 PM.
