Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Griffins Stay Atop PSAC West with Shutout at Cal

Two goals in the opening five minutes of the second half broke a scoreless tie and Seton Hill would go on to earn a 3-0 win on the road Saturday at Cal to improve to 3-0 in the PSAC West.

The Griffins controlled the action in the first half, but were still in a scoreless tie at intermission. Seton Hill managed nine shots in the opening 45 minutes and had four stopped. The best chance came in the 39th minute when a corner into the box led to a header by Elias Mobrin, but that attempt hit the post to keep SHU off the scoreboard and the match was 0-0 going into the second half.

It didn't take long for the Griffins to break through after halftime. Just 2:03 into the second half, Anthony Panko, off a pass from Kai Pritchard, looped a shot from the top of the box over the Vulcan keeper for his third goal of the year and a 1-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Seton Hill doubled their lead. This time, it was a pass from AJ Koma to Fletcher Amos, whose shot just inside the box banged home in the top right corner of the goal. The third goal of the season for Amos boosted the Griffin advantage to 2-0 with 40 minutes to play.

Seton Hill added an insurance strike in the 70th minute. This time it was Wilfred Munn scoring for the Griffins, as he tapped in a ball after a cross from a free kick for his second goal of the season. Lock was credited with the assist and SHU's lead had grown to 3-0.

The Griffins lead would not be threatened in this one, as a stout defensive effort limited Cal through the afternoon. The Vulcans would manage only four shots in the match and Griffin keeper Bobby White did not need to make a save in posting his fifth shutout of the year and the sixth clean sheet for Seton Hill in 10 matches this season.

Coming up next for the Griffins is a key tilt with Gannon on Wednesday in a match for the early lead in the PSAC West. Seton Hill will enter the game with a 6-3-1 overall record and 3-0 mark in the league, while Gannon has a 2-0 record in PSAC West competition and is 8-1 overall going into their match tonight at UPJ. Kickoff on Wednesday is scheduled for 2 pm at Seton Hill's DSG Field.
