The Griffin wrestling program honored six of its seniors before their PSAC Dual with #17 Kutztown on Saturday evening.
Seton Hill won six of the ten matches in route to a 21-16 victory over the Golden Bears in front of an electric atmosphere. The Griffins are now 7-5 overall and 4-2 in PSAC Duals. Kutztown falls to 8-4 overall and 2-4 in PSAC Duals.Â
The Golden Bears opened the match with a major decision win and a win by fall to take a 10-0 lead after two matches.Â
Joel Cawoski started a run of five Griffin wins with a 6-1 decision win at 141 pounds.Â
Austin Shaw followed with a thrilling 7-6 overtime victory at 149 pounds to cut the Kutztown lead to 10-6.Â
Logan McKoy won a hard fought 3-2 decision at 157 pounds that trimmed the Bears lead to 10-9 midway thru the match.Â
Luke Ewing was dominant on top in his 3-0 victory at 165 pounds. Ewing was able to ride out the second and third period for the victory.Â
Brandon Matthews then won a wild 10-8 decision at 174 pounds. The match was back and forth with a wild rally in the first period that resulted in 10 points. The Griffins led 15-10 after Matthews' win.Â
Kutztown then got a 11-9 decision in overtime at 184 pounds to cut the SHU lead to 15-13 with two matches remaining.Â
Billy Bowlen closed out the match and secured a Griffins win with a win by fall just 1:31 into the 197 pound match. That win put the Griffins in front 21-13.Â
The final match was a battle between two ranked heavyweights. #1 Andrew Dunn Jr was able to get a 2-1 victory in overtime over
Jake Beistel in a match that had the crowd on thier feet.Â
The Griffins will travel to East Stroudsburg on Tuesday evening for a PSAC Dual.Â
