The Griffin men's hoops team made the trip north to Clarion to meet the Golden Eagles in PSAC play on Saturday afternoon.
Seton Hill outscored the Eagles 46-36 in the second half in route to a 73-67 road win on Saturday. With the win, the Griffins have now won two of their last four contests.
Drew Green opened the scoring for the Griffins with a three pointer thirty seconds in the half. With the score tied at seven, Clarion went on a 6-0 spurt to build a 13-7 lead with 12:38 to play in the first half. Two free throws from
Marrek Paola and
Anthony Karabatsos tied the contest at 17 with 8:50 to play before the half.
Tommy Sekunda's three pointer trimmed the Clarion lead to 23-22 with just under five minutes remaining in the half. Clarion built their lead to seven with just over two minutes to play before the half but five straight from
Kealen Coats cut the lead to 29-27 before the Eagles scored the final basket for a 31-27 halftime lead.
Sekunda's three pointer gave SHU a 35-34 lead with less than five minutes into the second half. Clarion retook the lead 44-39 before a Davis three pointer and three point play from Karabatsos put SHU in front 45-44 midway thru the second half.
Back to back three pointers from Davis and Sekunda keyed a 16-2 run over a six minute stretch that put the Griffins in front 55-46 with 5:44 to play in the half. Clarion got back to within five but Karabatsos hit another three pointer to increase the lead back to 60-52 with 2:39 to play. After Clarion got to within four, Davis answered with another three pointer to make it 63-56 with 1:14 to go.
SHU was then able to put the game away by hitting ten free throws down the stretch.
SHU finished the game shooting 50% from three point land (9-18) and hit 20 of 23 free throws.
Davis led the Griffins with a double double of 29 points and 10 rebounds. Sekunda finished the game with 13 points. Karabatsos also reached double figures with 10 points. Paola added 8 points and 10 rebounds.
SHU will return home to host Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening.
