The Griffin wrestling team returned home on Saturday evening as they hosted #4 Pitt Johnstown in a PSAC dual match.
Seton Hill got a win by fall from
Austin Shaw and a decision win from
Billy Bowlen but it was not enough as the Griffins dropped a 34-9 decision in the dual. SHU is now 4-5 overall and 3-2 in PSAC action while the Mountain Cats improve to 18-3 overall and 4-0 in PSAC duals.Â
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 19-0 lead after the first four matches of the dual. They picked up two wins by fall, one by major decision and one by decision.Â
Austin Shaw got the Griffins on the board with a huge win by fall at 157 pounds. His pin at 1:44 of the third period cut the UPJ lead to 19-6 midway thru the match.Â
UPJ then won the next three matches to increase their lead to 31-6 with two matches remaining.Â
Billy Bowlen earned a hard fought 6-3 decision win at 197 pounds to cut the lead to 31-9 before UPJ got a decision win at 285 to close out the match.
The Griffins return to action next weekend when the host the SHU Quad match on Saturday with matches at 10 AM, noon and 2 PM.Â
