The Griffin wrestling team made the trip to Louisville, Kentucky for the 2020 NWCA National Duals on Friday. 

Seton Hill opened the tourney with a first round matchup against UW-Parkside.  The teams split the five matches but Parkside got bonus points in four of their five wins in route to a 24-17 win over the Griffins.  SHU then met Maryville in the consolation round.  Maryville took eight of the ten matches to eliminate the Griffins from placing in the tournament with a 33-6 loss.  The Griffins closed out the duals with a 19-14 loss to Lindenwood. 

In the first match, Parkside jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the first two matches.  Tyler Kenney won a hard fought 4-2 decision in overtime to cut the Parkside lead to 9-3.  Austin Shaw followed with a 13-3 major decision to trim the lead to 9-7. 

Parkside then won the next three matches, one by fall and one by injury default to build their lead to 24-7 with three matches to go.  The Griffins closed out the match by winning the final three matches.  Joey Romjue won by an 8-4 decision while Billy Bowlen won by an 8-6 decision.  Jake Beistel closed out the match with a 12-2 major decision in the final match of the dual. 

Sean Hoover dominated in a 6-0 win at 165 pounds in the loss to Maryville.  Beistel made it 2-0 on the day with a 7-1 decision win in the final match of the day. 

Kenney won his second match of the day, a 10-2 major decision, to open the scoring for the Griffins in the Lindenwood match.  Alec Shaw also won by a major decision (14-6) at 174 pounds.  Bowlen picked up his second win of the day by winning 7-4 at 197 pounds.  Beistel made it three for three on the day with an 8-4 decision in the final match of the day. 

SHU will return to PSAC Duals next Saturday when they travel to Gannon for a 4 PM start.
