SHU Walked Off in Florida

After a day off yesterday, the Griffins returned to the field on Thursday morning with a matchup with Malone in Winter Park, Florida on Rollins campus.  SHU led 4-1 but Malone scored the final four runs, including two in the bottom of the ninth to walk off the Griffins by a 5-4 score.  SHU dropped its fourth straight and falls to 4-5 on the season.  Malone is now 8-4 on the season.

The Griffins scored single runs in the first three innings to take a 3-1 lead.  Jordan Fiedor was hit by a pitch to lead off the game.  He advanced to third on a Tommy Pellis single.  Nick Stotler drove in Fiedor with a sacrifice fly.

Andrew Chuba led off the second inning with a double.  He scored on a Chris Law single to make it 2-0.  Malone got a single run in their second inning.  With one out in the third, Pellis hit a solo shot to give the Griffins a 3-1 lead.

In the fifth, Jamie Wrabel led off with a single.  Fiedor was hit by a pitch again to put runners on first and second.  After a strikeout, Stotler singled in Wrabel to give SHU a 4-1 advantage.

Malone trimmed the lead to 4-3 with two runs in the sixth inning.  The Pioneers then walked off the Griffins in the ninth.  With two outs, the Pioneers used a walk, single and balk plus a game winning walk off hit on an 0-2 pitch for a 5-4 win.

The Griffins did not take advantage of having runners on as they were just 4-17 with runners on and 2-14 with runners in scoring position.

Pellis and Stotler each added 3 hits.  Chuba and Law added two.

The Griffins return to action on Friday night when they meet defending national champion Augustana (SD) at 7:30 PM.
