Seton Hill and Winston Salem State closed out their three game set with the rubber game of the series on Monday afternoon. The Griffins scored in five of nine innings, including eight runs in the eighth inning, in route to a 16-1 victory over the Rams. SHU is now 2-1 on the season while WSSU falls to 10-2 on the season.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning. With one out,
Isaiah DiAndreth singled and
Nick Stotler walked. Both scored on a
Tyler Zaluski single. Seton Hill added two more unearned runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead.
In the fifth the Griffins got bases loaded walks from
Tyler Peterson and
Austin Braendel to increase their lead to 6-0.
Andrew Chuba singled to lead off the sixth inning. He then stole second and third and scored on a throwing error by the catcher. Stotler drew a walk and later scored on a
Tommy Pellis single to give the Griffins an 8-1 lead.
Seton Hill put the game away with eight runs in the eighth. Stotler had the big hit in the inning with a bases clearing double. Pellis, Peterson, Chuba and
Jamie Wrabel each added RBIs in the inning.
Michael Bryja started the game and threw four scoreless innings. He struck out four and gave up just one hit.
Jared Kollar and
Ben Vicini each had scoreless relief appearances.
Stotler and Pellis led the offense with three hits each, including a double.
The Griffins return to the field on Saturday when they take on Ashland in Florida at 12 noon.
