Seton Hill opened their 2019 season with a home doubleheader with Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday afternoon. SHU gave head coach
Jessica Strong her first head coaching win with an 8-0 win in game one. SHU completed the sweep with a walk off 7-6 win in game two.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning. After one out,
Raelyn McGarry reached on an infield single. She moved to third on a
Morgan Toal double. After a lineout,
Chelsea Rohan singled to right center field to knock in both runners and give SHU a 2-0 lead.
SHU added three more in the third inning. After one out, Toal doubled.
Christiana Skrabak was hit by a pitch and Rohan reached on a fielders choice to load the bases. After a strikeout,
Alexis Vargas cleared the bases with a double to left center giving the Griffins a 5-0 lead.
Wheeling Jesuit loaded the bases with one out in the fourth but
Skyla Greco got three strikeouts to end the inning.
The Griffins ended the game in the sixth inning. With two outs and two on base,
Abbie Thrower sent a ball over the left field wall giving the Griffins an 8-0 win.
Skyla Greco went the distance, giving up 3 hits while striking out 11. Vargas finished the game with 3 hits and 3 RBI. Toal added two hits.
The Griffins picked up right where they left off in game two. SHU put up a five spot in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead. Rohan, Thrower and
Ashley Boehm each drove in runs in the inning.
They added another run in the second on a solo shot from Toal.
Wheeling got four runs back in the fifth inning to trim the lead to 6-4. They tied the score in the sixth with two runs.
Seton Hill won the game in the seventh. Toal led off the inning with double to center field. Pinch runner
Nichole McClendon then scored when the ball was thrown away to give SHU the 7-6 win.
Toal led the offense with three hits.
Raelyn McGarry and Rohan added two hits. Greco earned her second win of the day in relief.
SHU will be off until their spring break in Florida.
