Cecere's Career High Leads Griffins at Millersville

Seton Hill returned to PSAC action on Friday afternoon with a PSAC Crossover at Millersville.

The Griffins got a career high from Courtney Cecere and two other Griffins reached double figures in an 86-82 road win.  SHU improves to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in PSAC play while the Marauders fall to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in PSAC play.

Like they have many times this season, the Griffins got off to a fast start, as they scored the first six points of the contest.  Lexi Civittolo hit a three and Katie Nolan followed with a basket as SHU built an early 11-2 lead.  Millersville responded with a 12-3 run to tie the score at 14 with 2:33 to play in the quarter.  The Griffins were able to close the quarter on a 8-2 run to take a 22-16 lead after the first quarter.

Millersville took a 24-22 lead early in the second quarter before Kelly Weeks answered with a three pointer to put the Griffins back in front.  Five straight points from Courtney Cecere gave SHU a 34-30 lead midway thru the second quarter.  Cecere continued her hot play as she scored a total of twelve straight points over a two minute stretch to give SHU a 41-37 lead with 2:42 to play in the half.  Four straight from Rena Enterline pushed the lead to five and SHU took a 47-43 lead into the halftime break.

Back to back baskets from Cecere and Civittolo to open the second half pushed the Griffins lead to 51-43 a minute into the quarter.  Civittolo's three point play extended the lead to ten midway thru the quarter.  Millersville was able to cut the SHU lead to 60-57 at the end of the third quarter.

Cecere drained a three to open the scoring for the Griffins in the fourth quarter.  Five straight points from Cheyenne Trest pushed the lead to 68-60 with 6:41 to play.  After a Marauder basket, Trest drilled a three to give SHU a 71-62 lead with just under six minutes to go.  Madelyn Fischer followed with a three as SHU extended its lead to double figures midway thru the fourth quarter.  The Marauders got back to within five before Sydney Rabold hit two free throws with just over a minute remaining.  SHU hit eight free throws down the stretch to close out the game.

Cecere paced the Griffins with a career high 22 points.  Civittolo also reached double figures with 18 points.  Trest was the third Griffin in double figures with 16.

SHU will end the 2019 portion of their schedule with a road contest at Shepherd on Saturday afternoon.
