Wrestlers Finish Second at Mt Union Invite

The Griffin wrestling team opened their season at the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Alliance, Ohio.

Seton Hill had eleven wrestlers place as they finished second overall in the event.  SHU finished the event with 113.5 points.  Fellow PSAC school Gannon won the event. 

Leading the way for the Griffins was Brandon Matthews who finished first at 174 pounds.  He had a perfect day, going 4-0 in the invitational. 

Three other Griffins finished second in their weight classes.  Alan Diltz was second at 125 pounds after a 2-1 day.  Austin Shaw ended the day with a 3-1 record which was good for second place at 149 pounds.  Jake Beistel won his first three matches at 285 pounds before falling in the final for the third second place finish. 

Three more Griffins placed third.  Vincent Distefanis was third at 133 pounds after a 3-1 day.  Sean Hoover placed third at 165 pounds with a 4-1 record.  Alec Shaw also finished third with a 4-1 day at 174 pounds. 

Both Luke Landefeld and Luke Ewing had fourth place finishes.  Landefeld won his first two matches before having to forfeit his final two matches at 141 pounds.  Ewing went 3-2 on the day for a fourth place finish at 165 pounds. 

Both William Burgess and Joey Romjue finished in sixth place.  Burgess was 2-2 for sixth place at 133 pounds.  Romjue also won two matches for sixth place at 197 pounds.

SHU will take part in the Findlay Open next weekend.
