WBB Runs Winning Streak to Four to Start Season

Box Score The Griffin women's basketball team began PSAC play with a PSAC Crossover matchup with Mansfield on Saturday afternoon. 

Seton Hill scored the first twelve points of the game and never looked back as they led for 39:28 in the contest in a 71-60 victory over the Mountaineers.  SHU has opened the season with a 4-0 mark while Mansfield is 2-3 on the season. 

SHU began the game with a 12-0 run over the first 2:48 as they took control of the game early.  Katie Nolan scored six points and Lexi Civittolo added four points during the run.  A Cheyenne Trest three pointer extended the lead to 15-2 with six minutes left in the quarter.  Samantha Kosmacki pushed the lead to 18--4 just under midway thru the quarter.  Three pointers from Madelyn Fischer and Rena Enterline gave SHU a 24-13 lead after the first quarter of play. 

A quick 8-0 run on a layin from Courtney Cecere and threes from Trest and Enterline pushed the SHU advantage to 32-13 just over a minute into the second quarter.  Back to back layins from Trest extended the lead to 21 points with 7:33 to play in the half.  A three point play from Civittolo at the media timeout put SHU in front 42-20.  Mansfield closed out the half on a 13-2 run to trim the lead to 44-33 at the break. 

The lead ping ponged between nine and eleven points over the first five minutes of the third quarter.  Mansfield cut the SHU lead to 58-51 after three quarters of action. 

Baskets from Tiana Stewart and Nolan and two free throws from Sydney Rabold extended the lead to 64-51 early in the fourth quarter.  Mansfield was able to get back to within eleven but would not get any closer as SHU opened the season with its fourth straight win. 

Civittolo led three Griffins in double figures with 13 points.  She also added six steals and five assists.  Trest added 12 points and seven rebounds.  Nolan also reached double figures with 10 points.

SHU will continue PSAC Crossover action on Sunday when they host Bloomsburg at 1 PM.
