Seton Hill's football team ended its first season under coach Danny Day with a PSAC crossover contest on the road at Shepherd on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins led 7-0 but the Rams outscored the Griffins 21-3 in the second quarter to take control of the contest and defeat the Griffins by the score of 56-24. SHU ends the season with a 2-8 record.
SHU won the toss and took the ball to start the contest. They were forced to punt but
Hunter Miller's punt was downed at the Shepherd six yard line. That kick paid off when
Jaylen McDuffie forced a fumble and
Justice Griffin recovered at the Shepherd five yard line. On their first play,
Ryan Barabe found
Darnell Carey with a five yard touchdown pass to give SHU the early 7-0 lead. The Rams tied the score at seven with just over two minutes to play in the quarter.
The Rams scored three times in the second quarter and
Hunter Miller's 43 yard field goal was the lone Griffin points as the Rams took a 28-10 lead into the halftime break.
On their first possession of the second half, SHU marched sixty yards for a score.
Logan Wiland's 35 yard run set up a seven yard touchdown run from
Michael Valentino that cut the lead to 28-17 with 11:41 to play in the third. The Rams answered with two touchdowns before the end of the quarter to take a 42-17 lead into the fourth quarter.
Shepherd scored on their first possession of the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 49-17. Barabe's second touchdown pass, this one to John Makell for 19 yards, trimmed the Rams lead to 49-24. The Rams returned the kickoff back for the final score of the game.
Barabe finished 21-35 for 234 yards and 2 touchdowns. Logan Wiland finished with 118 yards rushing. Matthew Williams added 6 receptions for 66 yards. Narrio Walks led the defense with 11 tackles.
