The Griffins trekked up I-79 to Erie to meet Gannon in an important PSAC West matchup on Wedneday afternoon.
Seton Hill scored goals in each half for a 2-1 victory over the Golden Knights. SHU is now 5-6 overall and 5-4 in PSAC West play while Gannon falls to 5-5-1 overall and 4-5-1 in PSAC West play. The win moves the Griffins above the Knights in the PSAC West standings and gives the Griffins the season sweep of the Knights.
SHU got on the scoreboard early in the contest as
Katie Kimmich played a ball to
Amanda Banfield who beat a Gannon defender then put a shot around a charging goalie into the right hand side of the net for a 1-0 Griffin lead. Gannon outshot the Griffins by a 4-3 margin in the half but the Griffins had the one corner kick in the half.
Grace Kenyon recorded two saves in net to keep the Knights off the scoreboard.
The game remained 1-0 until the 67th minute when
Shamika Langevine found a loose ball about 25 yards out on the right side of the field and sent a shot over the keepers head to extend the Griffins lead to 2-0. With 18:29 to play in the contest, Gannon was able to get on the scoreboard and cut the Griffins lead in half. Over the final 18 minutes, Kenyon made one more save and the Griffins blocked two more shots to hold on to the lead and get the three points.
Kenyon finished the contest with six saves. Six different Griffins each ended the game with one shot.
The Griffins will host PSAC West leading Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon.
