Seton Hill looked to run its winning streak to three games as they traveled to Pitt Johnstown for a PSAC West contest. The Griffins saw their winning streak come to an end with an 85-70 road loss. SHU is now 5-13 on the season and 3-9 in PSAC play.
Neither team got off to a hot start from the floor as the Mountain Cats led 6-4 at the under sixteen media timeout. Both teams then started to pick up their shooting over the next four minutes with the Mountain Cats outscoring the Griffins 14-10 to take a 20-16 lead.
Nathan Davis led SHU with 6 points over the first eight minutes of play.
Malik McKinney's steal and layin cut the lead to 20-18. The Griffin run continued as they built a 23-20 lead with 8:12 to play.
Anthony Karabatsos drilled a three and
Trevor Blondin hit two of three free throws to give SHU a 10-0 run and their first lead of the game. Back to back baskets from McKinney gave the Griffins a 29-28 lead with 4:10 to play in the half.
Davis hit two of three free throws with 58 seconds left in the half to give himself 1,000 career points and the Griffins a 35-32 lead.
Trevor Blondin's shot with ten seconds to play gave the Griffins a 37-33 halftime lead. The Griffins closed the half by making five of their last six field goal attempts.
UPJ rallied to take a 40-39 lead early in the half before a
Milenko Predic basket and a three from Davis put the Griffins back in front 44-40.
Anthony Karabatsos hit a three to give SHU a 50-46 lead with 15 minutes left in the half. UPJ battled back to tie the game at 52 at the under 12 media timeout.
The Mountain Cats scored the first four points out of the timeout and forced the Griffins to use a timeout. UPJ continued to take advantage of a plethora of fouls being called on the Griffins as they pushed their lead to 61-55 with 7:19 to play. The Mountain Cats hit eight free throws over the first twelve minutes of the half.
They continued to build their lead to 68-57 with 5:23 to play in the contest.
Davis scored his 1,000
th career point as he scored a game high 20 points to lead the Griffins. Blondin finished with 19 points.
SHU returns home on Wednesday when they host IUP in a PSAC West contest.
