Seton Hill hosted Gannon on Saturday afternoon in a PSAC West contest in the McKenna Center. SHU held a seven point halftime lead but the Golden Knights outscored the Griffins 47-32 in the second half in route to a 69-61 victory over the Griffins. SHU falls to 3-11 overall and 1-7 in PSAC play while Gannon is 5-10 overall and 3-6 in PSAC play.
The Griffins took a 13-6 lead on a three pointer from
Malik McKinney with 12:10 to play in the first half. Gannon then ran off eight in a row to take a 14-13 lead with 7:41 to go. Back to back three pointers from
Nathan Davis and
Kealen Coats gave SHU a 19-17 lead. After Gannon tied the game at 19, Coats hit another three and McKinney followed with a layin to push the lead to 24-19 with 3:09 to play. Another McKinney three pointer gave SHU a 29-22 halftime lead.
Davis opened the second half with a basket to push the lead to 31-22. Over the next three minutes, Gannon kept the Griffins off the scoreboard, taking a 34-31 lead just over three minutes into the half. McKinney drilled a three to end the run but the Knights used another 12-1 run to take a 46-35 lead with 10:39 to play.
The Griffins had one final run in them late in the half. With Gannon leading 56-45 with 2:38 to play, Coats drained back to back threes to cut the lead to 56-51 with 1:29 left. After Gannon hit one of two free throws,
Milenko Predic hit a layin to cut the lead to 57-53 with 1:07 left. The Griffins were able to get within two twice down the stretch but Gannon hit their final twelve free throws to close out the game.
Davis led the Griffins with 19 points. Coats finished the contest with 16 points. McKinney added 13 points. Predic pulled down a game high 13 rebounds.
SHU will remain home as they host Mercyhurst on Wednesday evening at 7:30 PM.
