The Griffin field hockey team made the long trip to North Andover, Mass to battle #9 Merrimack in the season opener for the Griffins. Merrimack scored six times in the first half and added three more goals in the second half for a 9-0 win over the Griffins.
Merrimack scored 38 seconds into the contest to take a 1-0 lead. They added three more goals before the fifteen minute mark as they built a 4-0 lead. Merrimack added two more goals in the final fifteen minutes of the first half to take a 6-0 halftime lead.
The Warriors scored twice within a two minute span to build their lead to 8-0 early in the second half.
Emma Jorgensen finished with six saves in cage and
Elizabeth Armbruster finished with 9 saves.
Wynnsome Gadson finished with two shots on goal.
SHU returns to action next Sunday when they host Bellarmine.
