Seton Hill used the arm of starter
Perry DellaValle and the bat of
Tom McCarthy as they defeated Clarion by the score of 5-3 in game one of the scheduled doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Clarion. Game two was canceled because of rain. SHU is now 24-20 on the season and 14-11 in PSAC West play.
Clarion took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game one. SHU tied the score at one in the second inning after McCarthy doubled to lead off the inning. He later scored on a single from
Austin Braendel.
The Griffins took a 3-1 lead in the fourth.
Adam Bankovich singled to lead off the inning and scored when McCarthy followed with a homer. SHU pushed their lead to 4-1 in the sixth. McCarthy led off with a single. He moved to second on a
Jordan Fiedor single and scored when
Colton Carney grounded out.
Clarion scored an unearned run in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-2.
Chris Law added an RBI in the seventh when his sacrifice fly scored
Tyler Sullivan who walked.
McCarthy was 3-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. Dellavalle earned the complete game victory. He struck out 14 in the win.
SHU and Clarion will try and play a tripleheader on Saturday morning starting at 11 AM.
