The Griffins looked to keep their season alive on Monday afternoon as they met Millersville in an elimination game at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional in West Lawn, PA.
Michael Bryja threw a complete game shutout, scattering five hits as the Griffins stayed alive with a 5-0 win over Millersville, ending the Marauders season. SHU is now 34-21 on the season.
SHU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Ryan Grieco was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. After two outs, Grieco stole second. He then scored on an RBI single thru the right side by
Jamie Wrabel.
Griffin starter
Michael Bryja stranded a runner at third base after a diving play from
Colton Carney for the last out of the inning. Bryja was able to work around a misplayed fly ball in right field in the sixth, getting a huge strikeout to end the inning.
The Griffins added to their lead with a one out, solo homer to left field that extended the Griffins lead to 2-0.
SHU increased their lead to 5-0 in the seventh inning.
Austin Braendel singled to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a wild pitch and scored when
Garret Vrbanic singled. Vrbanic moved to second on a passed ball and scored when
Tyler Sullivan singled. Sullivan later scored in the inning on a wild pitch to make the score 5-0.
Bryja went the distance, giving up just five hits while striking out five. Colella and Law each had two hits in the win.
SHU will now meet Mercyhurst in the Atlantic Regional Championship game, scheduled for 4 PM this afternoon.
