Women's Lacrosse Dominate Over Wheeling Jesuit

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Redshirt Junior Keagan Pontious scored six goals and Mackenzie Kilduff added four as the Seton Hill University women's lacrosse team dominated Wheeling Jesuit University (2-2, 0-0 MEC), 19-9, in non-conference action for their 2018 season opener on Wednesday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg. The Griffins (1-0, 0-0 PSAC), who have not lost a season-opener since the 2008-2009 season, are now 4-0 all-time against the Cardinals.

Mackenzie Kilduff scored the first two goals of the contest (29:10, 25:37) as Seton Hill opened up play with a 7-0 run by the 15:48 mark of the first. Ashley Ingram scored two goals (25:27, 20:52) during the run with Courtney Pontious (21:54), Keagan Pontious (16:19), and Katelyn Cressman (15:48) each adding goals. Wheeling Jesuit would respond with a goal by Paige Orbell, but the Griffins scored the game's next four to take a commanding 11-1 lead before settling on a 12-3 lead heading into halftime.

Savannah Monroe opened up the scoring in the second half to push the lead out to 10, 13-3, but Jesuit scored two in a row to cut the lead to eight, 13-5. Mackenzie Kilduff and Keagan Pontious scored goals within a minute of each other (24:09, 23:32) to give SHU a 15-5 lead and keep the clock running. After WJU's  Paige Orbell made it 15-6, Keagan Pontious would score three out of the game's next four goals to make it 18-7 in favor of Seton Hill. Jesuit's Megan Mangia and Kori Hickman scored back-to-back goals, but Kilduff's goal pushed the lead out to 19-9 with 5:11 remaining. Seton Hill would hold on for the win.

For the game, Seton Hill registered 37 shots compared to 22 for WJU (23-18 on goal). Seton Hill dominated the draw controls, winning 24 with Wheeling Jesuit winning just six.  Hailey Jacobs picked up the win for the Griffins and Elizabeth Hanks gets the loss for the Cardinals.

Keagan Pontious led the way with six goals. Mackenzie Kilduff had four with Katelyn Cressman and Ashley Ingram picking up two apiece. Five other Griffins - Nellie Phillips, Savannah Monroe, Courtney Pontious, Brooke Lawrence, and Olivia Caragein - had one goal each.

Seton Hill will take to the road for their annual trip to the State of Florida. The Griffins take on Florida Southern on March 3rd, the University of Tampa on March 7th, and Rollins College on March 9th. Check the Women's Lacrosse Schedule page for up-to-date information on the games.
