Griffins Fall in PSAC Opener

Seton Hill opened PSAC play on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to #20 Shippensburg for a PSAC contest.  Shippensburg was able to pull away in the second half in route to a 84-70 victory over the Griffins.  SHU is now 1-5 overall and 0-1 in PSAC play this season.

Shippensburg jumped out to a 13-8 lead at the first media timeout of the first half.  They extended that lead to 15-8 before Malik McKinney scored eight of the next ten points to cut the Ship lead to 18-16 with just over 13 minutes left in the first half.  SHU took a 21-20 lead on a Milenko Predic jumper with just over ten minutes left in the half.  Over the next five minutes the Raiders would outscore the Griffins 17-2 to take a 37-23 lead with five minutes left in the half.  A three point play from McKinney started a 10-0 Griffin run that trimmed the lead to four with 2:17 to play in the half.  Shippensburg took a 44-39 lead into the halftime break.

The Griffins shot 64% from the field in the first half while holding the Raiders to 41%.  McKinney led the Griffins with 13 points while Nathan Davis added 11 in the first half.

A layin from Predic got the Griffins back to within two at 46-44 just over three minutes into the second half.  Three minutes later the Griffins trailed 57-46.  Ship built their lead to 14 points at 66-52 with 9:06 left in the contest.  The Griffins would only get to within ten the rest of the contest as the Raiders closed out the PSAC win.

McKinney led the Griffins with a career high 24 points.  Davis added 15 for the Griffins while Trevor Blondin also reached double figures with 10 points.

SHU will return home next Saturday when they host Millersville in a PSAC crossover contest.
