Seton Hill hosted Clarion in the first round of the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday evening in the McKenna Center. The Griffins dropped the first set but battled back to take the next three sets and advance with a 3-1 victory over the Golden Eagles. SHU is now 22-8 overall and Clarion drops to 21-11. SHU advances to the PSAC Semifinals on Friday at Gannon.
Clarion took an early 5-4 lead in the first set over the Griffins. A kill from
Leah Bisignani tied the set at seven.
Viktoria Farian ended a two point Clarion run with a kill of her own. Two straight blocks from the Golden Eagles forced a Griffin timeout at 14-9. Back to back kills from
Rachel Satira and
Jillian Livorse cut the lead to 14-11. Clarion continued to hold an 18-13 lead forcing another Griffin timeout. Two straight Clarion errors got the Griffins back to within three at 18-15. A block from Bisignani and
Cameron Baril trimmed the lead to 20-17. Another Bisignani kill forced a Clarion timeout with SHU down 20-18. Bisignani and Satira combined on a block to cut the lead to one at 20-19.
Jessica Hanson won a dual at the net to save one set point at 24-22. Clarion took the first set 25-22.
A solo stuff from Satira and a kill from Hanson gave SHU an early 4-1 lead. Livorse follows with a kill and Clarion is forced to burn an early timeout.
Taylor Sabol aced the Eagles to push the lead to 9-3 early in the set. Bisignani ended a mini Clarion run with a kill to give SHU a 13-6 advantage. Three straight kills from Farian extended the SHU lead to ten at 17-7. Livorse ended a 3-0 Clarion run and gave SHU an 18-10 lead. Bisignani and Baril combined for another block and SHU lead 23-13. SHU evened the match at one with a 25-14 second set win.
Back to back kills from Livorse give SHU an early 5-3 lead in the third set. Livorse extended the lead to 7-3 with a kill. An
Erin Parks kill and a block from Livorse and Hanson extended the SHU lead to 10-5. Bisignani put a stop to a Clarion mini run with a kill and SHU led 12-7. Farian sent one to the floor to stop another 2-0 Clarion run at 13-9. The Griffins led 16-10 and Clarion took their second timeout of the season. Clarion ran off three straight points to force the Griffins into a timeout at 17-13. Baril and Bisignani combined for their third block to give SHU a 22-17 lead. Farian followed with a kill and SHU led 23-17. Baril gave SHU a set point at 24-17. Farian gave SHU a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-19 third set win.
A kill on an overpass from Hanson and an ace from Farian put SHU in front early 4-2 in the fourth set. A kill from Satira and Hanson extended the lead to 6-2 and Clarion burned another early timeout. Back to back Livorse kills extend the lead to 8-3. SHU then ran off two more points to extend the lead to 10-3 and the Golden Eagles burned their last timeout. Clarion then ran off five straight points to trim the lead to 10-8. Kills from Hanson and two from Livorse made the score 20-12 Griffins. Bisignani ended the match with a kill to send the Griffins into the semifinals.
The Griffins will meet Shippensburg, a 3-2 winner over Millersville in the PSAC Semifinals on Friday.
