Seton Hill closed out its PSAC Western Division schedule with a home matchup with California (PA) at Offutt Field on Saturday afternoon. The Vulcans scored 21 straight points to close out the first quarter and used those points in route to a 49-34 victory over the Griffins. SHU is now 1-9 on the season and 1-5 in PSAC play while the Vulcans improve to 6-4 overall and 5-2 in PSAC action.
The Griffins used a little trickery to open the game as
Chris Jones lateraled the ball to
Kinan Humphrey who found a wide open
Terrell Ford down the side line for a 71 yard touchdown strike to give the Griffins a quick 7-0 lead. The Vulcans then scored four unanswered touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
On the first play of the second quarter, Jones found
Ardell Brown for a five yard touchdown pass. Jones then connected with
John Makell IV for the two point conversion to trim the Cal lead to 21-15 with 14:56 to play in the half. The Vulcans answered with a ten play, 57 yard drive to build their lead back to 13 points at 28-15 with 10:16 to go in the second quarter. After the teams exchanged punts, Humphrey found Ford for his second touchdown of the game, this one from seven yards out to cut the lead to 28-22 with 1:21 left in the half. SHU then decided to kick the ball short on the kickoff that gave the Vulcans the ball at midfield. The Vulcans needed just three plays to increase their lead to 13 with a 37 yard touchdown pass with 36 seconds to play. The Vulcans took that 35-22 lead into the halftime break.
Neither team scored in the third quarter as the Vulcans carried the 35-22 lead into the fourth quarter of action. Seton Hill then drove 66 yards in 13 plays, the final one on a
Logan Wiland run to trim the Vulcans lead to 35-28 with 7:46 remaining in regulation. The Vulcans did not take long to respond as they needed just three plays to push the lead back to 42-28 with 6:34 left. The Vulcans then recovered a bad snap in the endzone for a touchdown to increase the lead to 49-28 with 5:36 left. Wiland then closed out the scoring with a two yard touchdown run.
Humphrey threw for 101 yards and two touchdowns.
Cinque Sweeting rushed for 84 yards. Ford caught seven passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Brown added four catches for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Jaylen McDuffie finished with 8 tackles.
Jahquan Thompson finished the game with 7 tackles.
SHU will end their season next Saturday when they host Notre Dame (OH).
