Seton Hill hosted Clarion on Senior Night as they honored four members of its program. The Griffins also had a chance to secure their first ever PSAC Southwest Division title and a home playoff match with a win. SHU was able to clinch their first ever PSAC Southwest Division Championship and a home playoff match in the first round with a 3-1 win over the Golden Eagles. SHU is now 20-8 overall and 13-4 in PSAC play while the Eagles are 20-10 overall and 11-6 in PSAC play.
The Griffins got out of the gate fast as they jumped out to an early 5-2 lead forcing an early Clarion timeout. A block from
Jessica Hanson and
Rachel Satira followed by a
Viktoria Farian block and kill gave SHU the early lead. A block and a kill from
Leah Bisignani gave SHU an 11-8 lead midway thru the first set. Clarion battled back to tie the set at 16. A kill from Farian and another Clarion hitting error gave SHU a 20-18 lead. Back to back kills from
Jillian Livorse gave SHU a 23-20 lead. Back to back Griffin errors cut the SHU advantage to one at 23-22. Another Livorse kill gave SHU set point at 24-22. Livorse ended the set with her fifth kill of the set. SHU took a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 win.
The early part of the second set was very tightly played with neither team having more than a one point advantage. A kill from Bisignani and one from Farian along with an Eagle hitting error gave the Griffins a 10-7 advantage. Back to back kills from Bisignani extended the lead to 12-7. Farian's kill forced another Clarion timeout with the Griffins leading 15-10. A Bisignani ace and a Clarion ball handling error extended the Griffins lead to 17-10. Clarion fought back and trimmed the Griffins lead to 19-16 forcing a SHU timeout.
Erin Parks came out of the timeout and got a kill to extend the lead to 20-16. After Clarion tied the set at 20, Farian put the Griffins back in front with a kill. A Clarion service error gave SHU a 23-22 lead. Two straight Griffin hitting errors allowed Clarion a set point at 24-23. Satira tied the set at 24 with a kill. Satira again evened the match with a kill, this time at 25. Clarion scored the final two points of the set to even the match at one with a 27-25 second set win.
Seton Hill opened the third set with a 6-2 run forcing another early Clarion timeout. Kills from
Brynn Fleury and Livorse extended the Griffins lead to 8-2.
Cameron Baril's kill ended a 5-0 Clarion run and gave SHU a 9-7 lead. After Clarion tied the set at nine, two Clarion errors and a Bisignani kill gave SHU a 12-9 lead. A
Hannah Moeller ace pushed the lead to four at 13-9, forcing the Eagles to burn their second timeout. Bisignani ended a 3-0 Clarion run with a kill. Back to back Farian kills gave SHU a 17-14 lead. Satira and Hanson combined on a block to extend the Griffin lead to 19-14. Satira followed with a kill and SHU led 20-14. Farian again ended a 3-0 Clarion run with a kill to put SHU in front 22-17. Livorse ended a long rally with a kill to give SHU a 23-17 lead. Another Livorse kill gave SHU set point. Livorse ended the set and gave SHU a 2-1 lead with a 25-19 third set win.
The Griffins took a 10-3 lead to start the fourth set. Farian's career high 20
th kill gave SHU an 11-3 lead. Back to back kills from Livorse and a Clarion hitting error extended the lead to 14-5. The Griffins extended the lead to 18-8.
Viktoria Farian paced the Griffins with a career high 20 kills.
Jillian Livorse also posted a career high with 17 kills. Farian also led the Griffins with 21 digs.
Brynn Fleury ran the offense with 26 assists.
Taylor Sabol added 22 assists and 13 digs.
Hannah Moeller added 18 digs.
Seton Hill will close out the regular season with a home match against Indiana (PA) on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
