Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

A Magical Night in McKenna

Seton Hill hosted California (PA) on Tuesday evening in front of a raucous white out crowd.  Prior to the match the Griffins honored their former teammate Maggie Murray who passed away this past weekend.  The team was inspired from the get go as they ran away with the first set in route to a sweep of the visiting Vulcans.  Seton Hill improves to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in PSAC play while the Vulcans dropped to 12-7 overall and 5-2 in PSAC play.

After a moment of silence to honor Murray before the pregame introductions, the Griffins came out of the gates flying jumping out to a 9-0 lead before the Vulcans knew what hit them.  The craziest part of the 9-0 run to start the game was that number nine, the number worn by Murray for her four years at Seton Hill.

Viktoria Farian opened the match serving and ran off the nine points.  During the run, the Griffins had kills from JIllian Livorse, Rachel Satira and Jessica Hanson as well as a block from Hanson and Satira.  Farian added two aces as well.  Another kill from Livorse had two Cal points sandwiched around it.  With the score 10-2, the Griffins then ran off eleven straight points to build a 21-2 lead.  Livorse had four kills during the run and Hannah Moeller added three aces.  After one more Cal point, the Griffins closed out the 25-3 first set with a kill from Farian.  The Griffins hit .706 in that first set with 13 kills and just 1 error in 17 hitting attempts.

The Griffins and Vulcans opened the second set tied at four.  Four straight from the Griffins made it 8-4.  SHU began to pull away in the set with a 6-0 run to build a 16-7 lead.  Erin Parks, Livorse, Satira and Farian all had kills during the run.  Another kill from Livorse gave SHU a 2-0 lead in the match following a 25-15 second set win.

With Cal leading 5-4 in the third set, the Griffins again used a 4-0 run to take a lead.  Farian, Hanson and Satira each had kills and Farian added a solo block during the run.  Cal battled back and used a 4-0 run to take a 17-14 lead forcing the Griffins to take their first timeout of the match.  Trailing 19-15, SHU battled back with a 5-0 run to take a 20-19 lead.  Cal tied the match at 20 but four errors on the Vulcans gave SHU match point at 24-20.  Cal held off one match point but Livorse ended the match with a kill.

Jillian Livorse and Viktoria Farian each had 10 kills in the match.  Brynn Fleury added 17 assists and Taylor Sabol finished with 13.  Rachel Satira finished with 4 blocks while Leah Bisignani and Jessica Hanson each added 3.  Farian and Hannah Moeller each had three aces.  Moeller led with 16 digs.

SHU returns to action on Friday evening when they travel to Mercyhurst for another PSAC contest.
