SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Seton Hill University baseball team came back from down three runs early and held off a strong offensive Shippensburg, squad, 14-12, in the Griffins' final scheduled non-conference game.
The Raiders (25-19-1) scored three runs in the first, but the Griffins (31-15) answered with two in the second and third frame to get back into the ballgame.
Ryan Grieco started things off in the second with a double to right field.
Adam Ferita then singled to left center, scoring Grieco. After Fertia advanced on a wild pitch,
Tyler Sullivan's groundout to the pitcher was enough to move Ferita to third. An out later,
Sam Vilk's single brought Ferita home to pull the Griffins to within one, 3-2. In the third,
Mark Colella reached via an error with two outs and advanced to second. Grieco then singled to left center, scoring Colella. Grieco then advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher, then to third, and finally home on an error by the first baseman to give SHU a 4-3 lead.
Shippensburg would respond, scoring a run in the third. But, SHU would come back for two runs in the fourth.
Sam Vilk started things off with a two-out single to the pitcher.
Jarrett Peters' then doubled to left center, scoring Vilk and advancing to third via a throwing error.
Craig Lewis' triple to center field scored Peters as the Griffins increased their lead to 6-4.
The Raiders stormed back to score twice in the 5th, three in the 7th, and three more in the 8th to take a 12-10 lead. However, the Griffins would score two to tie the ballgame in the 9th to extend the game.
Down by two,
Tom McCarthy got the 9th inning going with a single to third base and advanced to second via a balk.
Mark Colella's homer to left field tied the ballgame at 12-12 and forced extra-innings.
In the 10th,
Ryan Wardropper led off with a walk. One out later,
Craig Lewis singled to right field and Wardropped made his way around to third base on the hit. Lewis would steal second on the next at-bat.
Tom McCarthy then doubled to left field, scoring Lewis and Wardropper to give SHU a 14-12 lead. Shippensburg couldn't get any offense going in the bottom of the 10th and the score stood at 14-12.
Patrick Boyer (2-0) picked up the win, throwing 2.0 innings in relief of
Kenny Wells. In all, the Griffins used five pitchers. Andy Crum (3-3) was saddled with the loss, spending 5.0 innings on the hill in relief of starter Jacob Menders.Â

Aaron Previsky, and
Jarrett Peters all had doubled in the win. Lewis had SHU's only triple.
Mark Colella and
Sam Vilk homered. All-in-all, the game featured 14 extra-base hits and the teams combined for 33 hits and 8 errors.
Seton Hill will close out the 2017 regular season with a four-game PSAC series against Slippery Rock this weekend.
