It took twelve innings but the Seton Hill baseball team will play for in its first ever PSAC Baseball Championship game following a 7-6 walk off win over Shippensburg in the PSAC Tournament.
Bayley Jamanis' single in the bottom of the 12
th put the Griffins in the title game. SHU is now 35-18 on the season.
Three of the first four Shippensburg hitters reached base by base hit off Griffin starter
Zack Martinelli as the Raiders took an early 1-0 lead.
It took the Griffins a time thru the lineup to figure out Ship starter Grant Hoover but they finally did in the bottom of the fourth inning. After an out,
Tom McCarthy singled. He moved to third base on a failed pick off attempt by Hoover.
MP Buckley followed with an RBI single thru the left side to tie the score at one.
Mark Colella followed with a single to put runners at first and second.
Ryan Grieco singled to left center field scoring Buckley but Colella was throw out at third on the play for the second out of the inning.
Adam Ferita followed with a single that would have scored Colella but a groundout ended the inning.
Martinelli allowed just two baserunners thru the next four innings but got touched up for three runs in the sixth inning, forcing him out of the ball game trailing 4-2.
Buckley led off the sixth inning with a bomb over the wall in left field, cutting the Raider lead to 4-3. Grieco singled with one out and moved to third on a double off the wall by Ferita. Another baserunning blunder ended the SHU threat as Ferita was picked off second base, causing Grieco to get hung up between third and home and getting tagged out in a run down.
Ship got that run back with back to back doubles in the top of the seventh. The Raiders added another run with a perfectly executed squeeze play to take a 6-3 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh.
The Griffins tied the score at six in the eighth inning. Buckley led off the inning with a double. Grieco singled to put runners on first and third. After a strikeout, pinch hitter
Sam Vilk doubled off the left field wall scoring two runs.
Jarrett Peters then singled in pinch runner
Kailen Grimm to tie the score at six.
Ship took advantage of a catchers interference and an error to load the bases with one out but
Kenny Wells came on in relief and got two strikeouts to end the inning. SHU got a runner to second with one out but he was caught stealing third base. Buckley walked and stole second with two outs but a strikeout sent the game to extra innings.
SHU stranded a runner at third base in the 10
th and runners at first and second in the 11
th inning setting up the 12
th inning heroics.
After a strikout, Ferita reached on an error. He stole second base and after a second strikeout,
Bayley Jamanis dropped a single in front of the center fielder, sending the Griffins into the title game.
Kenny Wells with 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. He improves to 7-2 on the season and 2-0 in the tourney with a save.
Ryan Grieco goes 4-6.
MP Buckley finishes with 3 hits.

The Griffins will take on Mercyhurst in the title game on Sunday morning at 10:30 AM. Mercyhurst must defeat the Griffins twice to win the title.
