Tom McCarthy, and
Adam Ferita all homered and the Seton Hill University baseball team scored nine runs in the sixth to down West Liberty University in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon in Greensburg.
The win moves Seton Hill to 16-10 overall, while West Liberty falls to 16-7 for the 2017 season.
Ahead 2-0 after two, the Griffins surrendered runs in the third and fourth to tie the game at two apiece. However, SHU broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth with nine runs on five hits.
Adam Ferita's homer scored
Tom McCarthy after he led off by being hit by a pitch. Jarret Peters reached first by also being hit by a pitch before Bayley Jamanis's bunted for a base hit.
Craig Lewis then fouled out, but the ball was deep enough in no-man's-land to allow Jamanis and Peters to advance to second and third bases.
Tyler Sullivan's followed-up with a well-placed bunt that fooled the Hilltopper's, reaching safely at first while Peters scored from third to make it 5-2 in favor of SHU.Â
Mark Colella's ensuing double plated Jamanis and Sullivan.
Sam Vilk reached on a fielder's choice and Colella advanced to third to put runners at the corners.
Austin Braendel then homered to left field to put the Griffins ahead, 10-2.
Tom McCarthy then hit a solo shot to left field himself to put another on the board and the Griffins would put the game on cruise control from there on out.
Colella went 3-for-5 in the game with two doubles and a triple, three RBI's, and one run scored. Braendel was 2-for-4 with a double, homer, and a game-leading four RBI's. McCarthy went 2-for-4 with a homer and one RBI. Ferita was 2-for-3 with a homer, two RBI's, and three runs scored. Sullivan went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Jamanis rounded out the SHU hit's by going 1-for-2 with one run scored.Â
Bryce Spak picked up the win and moves to 3-1 on the year. West Liberty's Maloney gets the loss.
Seton Hill will now turn their attentions to a four-game series with PSAC foe California University of Pennsylvania this weekend. The first two doubleheaders are scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Washington, Pa with games three and four to take place on Sunday in Greensburg.
