Seton Hill opened the Florida Spring Trip with a doubleheader with Northwood at Historic Henley Field, the home of the Florida Southern Mocs.
Joe Shaffer made some history for himself in game one, throwing the first no hitter in school history in a 5-0 win for the Griffins. Northwood walked off the Griffins in game two by the score of 7-6 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh. SHU is 4-4 on the season.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning.
Craig Lewis singled with one out. After two outs, Lewis stole second and moved to third and scored when the outfielder lobbed the ball back into the infield.
SHU increased its lead to 2-0 in the second inning.
Sam Vilk led off with a double and scored on a two out RBI single from
Adam Ferita. The Griffins pushed their lead to 3-0 in the third inning.
Tom McCarthy singled, stole second and third and scored on a RBI groundout by Vilk. Seton Hill added another solo run in the fourth inning.
Ryan Wardropper opened the inning with a single. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ferita. Wardropper moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a RBI ground out by
Tyler Sullivan.
Seton Hill manufactured another run in the fifth. Lewis singled and stole second, moving to third on another error. He scored on a sacrifice fly by McCarthy.
Shaffer earned his first win of the season as he struck out 12 while only walking 1 and hitting one batter.

The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in game two of the doubleheader.
Carl Turner singled with two outs, stole second and scored on a bloop double by Sullivan.
Northwood took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. SHU scored five runs on five hits in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Turner led off the inning with a single. After two outs Lewis walked and
Jarrett Peters singled to load the bases. McCarthy singled in two and Vilk singled in one to tie the score at four.
Mark Colella then doubled in two to give the Griffins a 6-4 lead.
Northwood scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off the Griffins.
Sam Vilk and
Carl Turner each had two hits for the Griffins.
SHU will continue action in Florida with a doubleheader against Grand Valley on Sunday in Auburndale.
