The Griffins faced a tough battle on the road on Saturday evening as they battled the third ranked Indiana (PA) Crimson Hawks. SHU was able to get to within six points late in the second half but it was not enough as IUP walked away with a 67-59 win. SHU falls to 11-14 overall and 8-13 in PSAC play. IUP improves to 24-2 overall and 19-1 in PSAC action.
The Crimson Hawks hit three three pointers in the game's first four minutes to take an early 13-5 lead over the Griffins. IUP was able to extend its lead to 20-10 at the under 12 minute media timeout. The Griffins twice got to within six points on three pointers but saw the Crimson Hawks answer. IUP led 32-21 with 7:07 to play in the half.
Spencer Casson had 9 points for the Griffins.
The difference in the first half was rebounding as the Crimson Hawks held a 24-10 advantage. IUP held a 40-29 advantage at the halftime break.
The Griffins were able to trim into the IUP lead and cut it to ten points at the first media timeout of the half. Casson scored three points and
Damjan Sredanovic added a steal and layin for the Griffins. SHU used back to back three pointers from
Noah Davis to cut the lead to 52-43 with 12:30 to play in the game. Noah hit a three pointer with 8:15 to play to trim the lead to single digits at 58-50. SHU held IUP scoreless for over five minutes but could only get to within six points at 58-52 with 7:35 to play.
The Crimson Hawks then reeled off six straight points to push their lead to 64-52 with 2:55 to play.
Brandon Alston completed an old fashioned three point play to cut the IUP lead to 67-59 with 42.4 seconds to play. The Griffins decided not to foul and IUP was able to run out the clock for the win.
Spencer Casson led the Griffins with 24 points and 9 rebounds.
Noah Davis finished the game with 16 points.
SHU will close out the regular season on Wednesday when they host Pitt Johnstown.
