Men's Basketball Clipped By Cal Buzzer Beater, 69-68

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Cordell Smith hit the game-winner on the baseline as time expired to give California University of Pennsylvania the 69-68 victory over Seton hill University on Saturday afternoon at the McKenna Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

With the win, California moves to 9-15 overall, 6-12 in PSAC play. Seton Hill falls to 11-12 overall and 8-11 in PSAC action.

Leading throughout the first half, Seton Hill pushed the lead out to 14, 45-31, with 12:17 remaining in the second. However, the Seton Hill offense would go cold while California started the heat up, and, by 8:18 showing on the clock, the Griffins were clinging to just a one-point lead, 48-47. SHU would respond, pushing the lead to 8, 58-50, over the next four minutes. Manny Joshua got the run started with back-to-back lay-ups, followed by a Noah Davis jumper to make it 54-47 with 5:52 to go. After a Vulcan three, Damjan Sredanovic hit on 1-of-2 free-throws and Noah Davis swished a trey to give SHU a 58-50 lead.

However, Cal-U would hit three's in consecutive possessions, and a Nick Miller jumper gave the Vulcans a 61-60 lead, their first lead since the opening moments of the first half, with just 2:00 showing on the clock. From there the Vulcans started using the foul to stop the clock, putting SHU to the foul line. Manny Joshua started off the final countdown, going 2-for-2 on his first trip to regain the lead. After Cal-U's Tony Richardson went 1-for-2 to tie the game, Joshua equaled Richardson's effort, going 1-for-2 and again regaining the lead, 63-62 with 1:21 to go. 

Following a time out and two missed Vulcan free-throws, Nathan Davis was fouled and hit both of his shots, giving SHU the 65-62 advantage with just 37 second remaining. On the ensuing possession, Cordell Smith's layup cut the lead to one, but Manny Joshua pushed the lead out to three again, 67-64, with two free-throws. After a Robel Teckle jumper, Noah Davis made his first free-throw, but missed his second. With just 7 second to go, and the clock running, Andjusic fought through a double-team and found Smith open in the corner for the win.

Senior Noah Davis led the SHU offense with a game-high 18 points on 5-of-13 shooting (3-6 from three). Nathan Davis added 13 points on just 5-of-15 from the floor, and Manny Joshua scored a season-high 12 points on 3-of-4 shooting and 6-of-8 from the foul line. Fernando Salsamendi narrowly missed a double-double with 9 points and 10 a team-leading rebounds. Spencer Casson had 7 points, 8 rebounds, and a game-high 7 blocks.

For the game, Seton Hill made 22-of-55 attempted shots (40.0%), including just 4-of-21 from long-distance (19.0%). The team combined to make 20-of-26 free-throws (76.9%). 

Luka Andjusic scored 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting, all of which came from three-point land, and 2-of-3 from the line. Robel Teckle was 6-of-18 from the floor for 14 points and had the game's only double-double, grabbing 10 rebounds. Cordell Smith scored 12 points while dishing out 9 assists, and Nick Miller had 11 to round out the double-digit scorers. Tony Richardson grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

As a team, the Vulcans scored on 22 of their 64 shot attempts (34.4%), including 13-of-34 from three (38.2%). The team was 12-of-21 from the charity stripe (57.1%).

Seton Hill outscored Cal, 28-12, in the paint. SHU also held a slight edge in points off of turnovers, 7-5.The Griffin reserves outscored their counterparts, 14-10. Seton Hill held advantages in second chance points (11-7) and fast break points (8-2).
