Seton Hill made the short trip to Johnstown, PA to take on Pitt Johnstown in a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon. SHU used the Davis brothers who scored 18 points each in route to a 73-68 victory. SHU is now 8-9 overall and 5-8 in PSAC action.
The Griffins got off to a fast start thanks to the three pointer. SHU hit three three pointers to take a 13-7 lead with 13:55 to play. The Davis brothers along with
Damjan Sredanovic hit three pointers. Five straight points from
Nathan Davis extended the Griffins lead to 20-12 at the under 12 media timeout.
Noah Davis followed with seven points in row of his own to push the Griffins lead to 27-14 with 8:45 to go in the half. The Mountain Cats answered right back with a 12-0 run of their own on four three pointers to trim the Griffins lead to 27-26 with 7:06 to go as SHU called their first timeout.
UPJ tied the game at 27 with a free throw but the Griffins built their lead back to three at 33-30 with 3:26 left to play in the half. UPJ hit back to back threes to take a 40-39 lead before
Nathan Davis drained a three from near half court at the buzzer to give the Griffins a 42-40 halftime lead.
Both teams got off to a slow start in the second half with UPJ holding a 4-2 advantage in the first four minutes, tying the score at 44. The Griffins then got hot from the field to take a 58-46 lead with just over ten minutes to play in the half. UPJ battled back to cut the lead to 62-55 with 7:46 to play in the game.
The Griffins turned it over on back to back possessions allowing the Mountain Cats to cut the lead to 67-64 with 3:47 to play. The Mountain Cats cut the lead to 67-66 with 1:55 to play on a layin.
Nathan Davis hit a three pointer late in the shot clock to give SHU a 70-66 lead with 33 seconds left. UPJ answered with a layup to cut the lead to 70-68 with 21 seconds left.
Trevor Lecuona then hit two free throws with 18 seconds to go to extend the lead to 72-68 and the Griffins got a defensive stop to put the game away.
The Davis brothers, Noah and Nathan led the Griffins with 18 points each.
Spencer Casson also reached double figures with 10 points.
Damjan Sredanovic finished with 9 points. Casson added 10 rebounds and 6 assists.
SHU returns to action on Wednesday evening when they host Indiana (PA) at 7:30 PM.
