Offense Explodes in Regular Season Finale

Seton Hill closed out their regular season with a road contest at Alderson Broaddus on Tuesday afternoon.  The Griffin offense exploded for 16 runs on 21 hits in a 16-3 victory.  SHU finishes the regular season with a 36-14 record.

SHU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Anthony Fanelli drew a one out walk.  He moved to third on a Zac Heide double and scored when Chris Miller grounded out.  The Griffins added two more runs in the fourth inning.  Colton Carney led off with a double.  He moved to third when Tom McCarthy singled.  Carney scored on a wild pitch with McCarthy moving to third on an error.  McCarthy scored when Matt Malacane grounded out.

The Griffins scored four runs on five hits in the fifth.  Colella drove in Miller who doubled.  Colella later scored on a wild pitch.  Two more runs scored when Garret Vrbanic reached on an infield single.  Tyler Sullivan singled in Heide who walked to lead off the sixth.  AB scored their first run in the bottom of the sixth.  Miller added another RBI in the seventh inning, increasing the SHU lead to 9-1. 

Vrbanic hit a two run homer in the top of the eighth inning.  Fanelli scored the 12th run of the game when he moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error.  Carney and Fanelli each knocked in a run in the ninth and Heide added 2 RBI with a single.

Zach Martinelli earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief.  Heide, Miller, Carney and McCarthy each had three hits in the win.  Fanelli, Colella, Sullivan and Vrbanic each added two hits. 

SHU will begin the postseason this Sunday when they take on East Stroudsburg at 9:30 AM in the first round of the PSAC Tournament.
