Seton Hill continued its tough part of the schedule with it's fifth straight contest against a ranked opponent. The Griffins battled #7 Lock Haven in their second PSAC battle of the season. SHU trailed 8-2 at the half and outscored the Eagles 6-1 in the second half but it was not enough as the Griffins dropped a tough 9-8 decision with their last second shot stopped by the LHU keeper. SHU drops to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in PSAC play.
Lock Haven came out flying at the start of the game, scoring twice in the first 1:17 of the game. The Griffins responded with two goals of their own over a 36 second span to tie the score at two.
Katelyn Cressman got the Griffins on the board first and
Emily Fagan scored her first goal of the game, tying the score at two with 24:44 to play in the first half. Two minutes later the Eagles took a 3-2 lead. That started a run of six straight goals for the Eagles who took an 8-2 lead into the halftime break. The backbreaker for the Griffins was a goal scored by Lock Haven with 1 second remaining in the first half.
Seton Hill made a goalie change to start the second half and it seemed to jump start the Griffin team.
Hailey Jacobs made her first save on a free position attempt less than a minute into the second half. Just under four minutes into the half,
Alessandra Nicholas scored to cut the LHU lead to 8-3. Fagan scored her second goal of the game with 21:44 left in the second half. When
Alexis Petrarca scored with 17:44 left in the half, SHU had cut their halftime defecit in half and trailed just 8-5. Less than a minute later, LHU scored to push their lead back to 9-5. Fagan found the back of the net for the third time from a feed from
Renee Kania at the 16:14 mark of the half. With just over 10 minutes to play in the half, Nicholas scored her second of the game, cutting the LHU lead to 9-7. Fagan's fourth cut the lead to 9-8 with just under seven minutes remaining in regulation. SHU managed two more shots to tie the game, including one at the final buzzer but could not beat the Lock Haven keeper.
Emily Fagan again led the Griffin offense with 4 goals.
Alessandra Nicholas added 2 goals and 1 assist.
Renee Kania tossed out two assists.
Hailey Jacobs made 5 saves in the second half while just allowing one goal.
SHU looks to snap a five game skid on Wednesday when they host Edinboro in a PSAC contest.
