Griffins Run Win Streak to Eight with Win over West Liberty

Seton Hill played one final tune up before PSAC West play opens this weekend as they made the short trip to Washington, PA to take on West Liberty in a non conference matchup.  Seton Hill brought their bats and escaped with a 15-13 slugfest victory.  The Griffins have won eight straight contests and are 12-4 on the season.

The Griffins got on the scoreboard first.  After an out, Tyler Sullivan and Anthony Fanelli both drew walks.  Chris Miller singled to load the bases and Zac Heide drew a bases loaded walk to give SHU a 1-0 lead.  West Liberty responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning. Seton Hill got a run back in the second inning when Garret Vrbanic delivered a sacrifice fly.  The Hilltoppers scored four more in the second to extend their lead to 8-2 after two innings.

Seton Hill trimmed the lead to 8-7 in the top of the third inning.  Adam Ferita drew another bases loaded walk and Phillip Pisarcik hit a grand slam.  SHU took the lead back in the top of the fifth.  Matt Malacane singled in Heide who drew a walk.  Sullivan added a two RBI base hit and Pisarcik scored on a passed ball to give SHU an 11-8 lead.  West Liberty trimmed the lead to 11-10 with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.  The Griffins added four more runs in the eighth.  Fanelli doubled in a run and Malacane added a two RBI single in the inning.  The Hilltoppers added three runs in the eighth to cut the Griffins lead to 15-13.

Zach Martinelli earned the win, working 4.2 innings.  Jesse Cooper earned his first save of the season, pitching the final 1.2 innings.  Tyler Sullivan, Matt Malacane and Colton Carney each had two hits for the Griffins.

Seton Hill will open up PSAC West play this weekend when they travel to Mercyhurst on Friday and then host the Lakers on Saturday for two doubleheaders.
