Softball Splits Saturday At Salem Tournament

SALEM, Va. - The Seton Hill University softball team split a pair of games on Saturday at the West Virginia Wesleyan Softball Tournament held in Salem, Va. The Griffins defeated Lemoyne College, 3-2, before falling to UVA-Wise, 2-1.

Seton Hill moves to 4-8 (0-0 PSAC) on the season. Lemoyne drops to 10-5 and UVA-Wise improves to 9-8 on the year.

In the SHU win over Lemoyne, Abbey Suhoski hit homeruns in the 4th and 5th innings to turn a one-run defecit into a 3-1 lead. Suhoski had two hits and three RBI's on the game. Paige Hertzog was a perfected 3-for-3 at the plate. Victoria Stock had a double and Carlee Wickstrom hit a single in the win.

Kaitlyn Kutchman picked up the win for Seton Hill. Kutchman spent 3.0 innings in the circle, giving up one earned-run on five hits while striking out one. Leighann Pettis relieved Kutchmann in the fourth inning and gave up one earned run on three hits. Pettis struck out two and walked three.

UVA-Wise took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.  SHU tied the score at one in the top of the sixth inning.  Monica Joseph led off the inning with a single.  She was forced out on a Carlee Wickstrom force play.  Wickstrom moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Suhoski single.  The Cavs then walked off the Griffins in the seventh with a two out single scoring the game winning run.  Suhoski was the lone Griffin with two hits.

The Griffins are scheduled to take on Fairmont State University Sunday morning at 9:00 AM followed by WV State University at 11:00 AM.
