The Griffin softball team comtinued play in Clermont, FL on Tuesday with a pair of games against Kentucky Wesleyan and the University of Findlay. SHU defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 3-2 in the opener and then completed the sweep with a 5-0 victory over Findlay in the nightcap. SHU is now 3-3 on the season.
SHU jumped on the board first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Victoria Stock led off the inning with a single.
Brooke Bower reached on an error with Stock moving to third base. Bower stole second and
Abbey Suhoski singled in Stock to give the Griffins a 1-0 advantage.
Ashley Perillo then made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly that scored Bower. Kentucky Wesleyan tied the score at two with two runs on four hits in the top of the second inning. SHU retook the lead in the bottom of the third inning. After two outs,
Carlee Wickstrom doubled and scored when Suhoski reached on an error.
Victoria Stock and
Paige Hertzog each had two hits for the Griffins.
Hayley Morgan earned the win in the circle, going five innings.
Kaitlyn Kutchman earned the save with two scoreless innings.
Seton Hill took the lead on Findlay with three runs in the top of the fourth. Bower and Wickstrom both reached on errors to start the inning. Suhoski also reached on an error to load the bases.
Kristina Torretti then ran for Suhoski. Perillo followed with a two RBI single that scored Bower and Wickstrom. Torretti then scored on a passed ball to give SHU the 3-0 lead. SHU added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. After one out
Erika Arriola doubled. Arriola moved to third on a groundout and scored when Stock reached on an error. Bower followed with an RBI double that scored Stock to make it 5-0.
Ashley Perillo led the offense with two hits and 2 RBI.
Kaitlyn Kutchman earned the win with a three hit shutout. She struck out 8 and walked 0.
SHU will be off on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday when they take on Notre Dame (OH) and Lake Erie.
