Griffins Season Ends on the Road at Gannon

Seton Hill opened PSAC Tournament play on the road at Gannon on Saturday afternoon, looking to knock off the #3 seed Lady Knights on their home floor like they did earlier this season.  It looked good early on as the Griffins held the lead for the first 12:31 seconds of the contest.  A 21-5 second quarter would doom the Griffins and allow the Lady Knights to advance with a 64-58 victory.  SHU ends the season with a 14-15 mark while Gannon improves to 17-10.

Lindsey Mifsud hit two free throws and Jenna Kaufman followed with a bucket to give the Griffins the early 4-0 lead.  A three pointer from Mifsud and a layin from Gill extended the SHU lead to 11-4 midway through the first period.  Gannon answered with six straight points before Halie Torris drained a three pointer to push the lead to 14-10 with just over a minute to play in the quarter.  Kaufman's sixth point of the quarter gave SHU a 16-12 lead after one quarter of action.

The team's exchanged three pointers early in the second quarter.  Gannon took a 20-19 lead on a three pointer but two free throws from Mifsud gave SHU the lead back at 21-20 with 6:58 to play in the half.  Those would be the last points the Griffins would score in the half allowing Gannon to close the half on a 13-0 run and take a 33-21 lead into the halftime break.

Gannon scored the first five points of the second half and were able to extend their lead to 38-21.  SHU scored their first basket in nearly ten minutes when Hannah Laslo ended the Gannon run with a basket at the 7:36 mark of the quarter.  SHU scored seven straight points to cut the Knights lead to 43-33 with 3:45 to play in the third quarter.  Gannon held a 48-35 lead after three quarters of play.

Back to back buckets from Kinross Obiefule and Kaufman cut the Gannon lead to nine points early in the fourth quarter.  Gannon build their lead back to 13 points before Mariah Wells drilled a three pointer with 5:19 to play to cut the lead to 55-45.  Wells drained another three pointer to cut the lead to seven with four minutes remaining.  Another basket from Obiefule and a free throw from Kaufman cut the Gannon lead to 59-54 with 2:17 left.  Mifsud cut the lead to 59-56 with 1:16 to play.  Gannon then hit two free throws to push the lead back to five points.

Lindsey Mifsud led the Griffins with 15 points.  Jenna Kaufman also reached double figures with 11 points.  Mariah Wells added 9 points.  Halie Torris added 8 points off the bench while Kinross Obiefule added 7 points.  Jharrin Gill closed out her college career with 6 points.
