Griffin's Survive Double Overtime Thriller Against Clarion

GREENSBURG, PA - A tip-in by Spencer Casson with 31 second\s remaining gave Seton Hill University the lead for good in a 97-94 victory over Clarion University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference men's basketball action on Wednesday, January 27th.

Seton HIll halts a two-game slide to improve to 8-11 (6-9 PSAC) on the season. Clarion falls to 10-11 (7-8 PSAC).

Two SHU players registered double-doubles, senior Kameron Taylor had a game-high 30 points on 8-of-14 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds. Redshirt sophomore Spencer Casson had 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting while also grabbing 12 rebounds. Senior Noah Davis had 20 points on 7-of-14 from the floor, and Trevor Blondin finished with 13 points on a 5-of-14 performance.

Seton Hill led by as much as nine (9), 71-62, with 02:53 left in the game, but was forced to overtime when Andre' Anthony hit on a long two-pointer with eight (8) seconds remaining.

In the first overtime, Seton Hill seemed to have the upper hand. However, the team struggled from the charity stripe, making just 5-of-11 attempts and the Golden Eagles would eventually force another overtime.

In the second overtime, Clarion took the lead, 94-93, with just under a minute to play. However, a Spencer Casson tip in on the ensuing possession followed by two Kameron Taylor free-throws sealed the win.

The Griffins were a total of 34-for-64 (53.1%) from the floor, including 8-of-17 (47.1%) from three point range. Clarion finished making 33-of-73 (45.2%) shots, including 8-of-14 from three. Clarion led the rebounding category with 47 rebounds compared to 37 for Seton Hill. Seton Hill had 40 points in the paint while Clarion had 36 from the interior. SHU turned the ball over 20 times with 12 steals, while Clarion turned it over 25 times and had 10 steals. All-in-all the game featured 11 lead changes and eight (8) ties.

Seton Hill will be on the road on Saturday, January 30 to take on Pitt-Johnstown. That game is scheduled for a 3:00 PM tip.
