Box Score 2 The Griffin volleyball team opened their season on Friday afternoon at the 2015 Asics Crimson Hawk Invitational. SHU opened the day with a matchup with Alderson Broaddus. Seton Hill defeated the Battlers by a 3-1 score. The Griffins hit the court right after the win over AB with a matchup against Walsh. SHU swept Walsh by a 3-0 score to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Seton Hill jumped out to an early 6-3 lead in the first set. The Battlers stormed back to tie the set at 11. The Griffins scored six of the next ten points to take a 17-15 lead. AB tied the score at 17 before
Jenna Sassack gave SHU an 18-17 lead with a kill. Another kill from Sassack extended the lead to 19-17. An AB hitting error pushed the lead to three. Another AB hitting error gave SHU a 22-18 lead.
Abigail Malsch followed with a kill to extend the lead to 23-18. Malsch went back to back to set up set point.
Maggie Murray ended the set with a kill and a 25-18 win

Cassie Hausfeld gave SHU an early 6-3 lead in the second set. A kill from Malsch extended the SHU lead to 11-7. A solo block from Hausfeld pushed the Griffin lead to 15-10. Sassack killed an AB run with a kill to push the lead to 18-15. Another Sassack kill pushed the lead to 19-15. Malsch followed to push the lead back to five at 20-15.
Lauren Teed aced the AB squad for a 23-16 lead. She followed that with another ace for set point. Murray ended the set with a kill for a 25-17 win.
Alderson Broaddus took a 9-5 lead in the third set. AB extended their lead to 12-7. The Battlers continued to extend their lead to 16-9 forcing a SHU timeout. Alderson Broaddus took the third set by a 25-13 score.
Murray opened the fourth set with an ace.
Shelby Kyllo and Hausfeld followed with a block for a 2-0 lead. AB stormed back for an 8-7 lead. Back to back AB errors gave SHU an 11-9 lead. Sassack gave the Griffins a two point lead at 15-13.
Rachel Satira's solo block tied the set at 16. Kills from Murray and Malsch pushed the SHU lead to 20-18. Kyllo's kill gave the Griffins a 22-18 lead. AB cut the lead to 23-21. A SHU error cut the Griffins lead to 23-22. Satira's kill gave SHU their first match point. An AB error ended the match with SHU taking the fourth 25-22.
The Griffins opened the Walsh match with a 25-22 first set victory. SHU took the second set with a 26-24 victory. Seton Hill wrapped up the match with a 25-20 victory in the third set.
Seton Hill will continue play in the Crimson Hawk Invitational on Saturday when they take on Lake Erie in the morning and Notre Dame (OH) in the afternoon.
