Seton Hill opened up PSAC crossover action against undefeated West Chester on Friday morning in the McKenna Center. SHU defeated the Golden Rams in three straight sets to knock them from the ranks of the unbeatens. SHU improves to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in PSAC play.
West Chester took an early 7-3 lead in the first set. SHU took their first lead at 17-16 in the set following kills from
Jenna Sassack and
Mary Baich. The Griffins were able to push their lead to 22-18.
Shelby Kyllo gave the Griffins a set point with a kill and a block from
Emily Gilles and Sassack ended the set with SHU winning 25-23. The Golden Rams scored the first four points of the second set and built that lead to 9-4. The Griffins then scored the next six points to take a 10-9 lead. West Chester battled back to tie the set at 18. SHU scored the next two points to take a 20-18 lead and force a WCU timeout. After a WCU point,
Cassie Hausfeld and
Maggie Murray had kills to put SHU up 22-19. The Griffins ended the second set with another block from Hausfeld and Kyllo for a 25-21 win. WCU again took an early lead in the third set at 7-3. SHU battled back to take a 10-9 lead. Kills from Murray, Hausfeld and
Abigail Malsch gave SHU a 16-14 lead. Hausfeld then ended the match with a kill and gave SHU the clean sweep.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 15 kills.
Shelby Kyllo added 9 and
Maggie Murray finished with 7.
Jenna Sassack, Kyllo and
Emily Gilles each had 5 blocks. Murray finished with 20 assists.
SHU will take on Cheyney at 7:30 on Friday evening.
