Box Score 2 Seton Hill closed out play in the Eckerd College Tournament in sunny St Petersburg, Florida on Saturday with two matches. SHU opened Saturday by taking on Colorado Christian and dropped the match in four sets. The Griffins responded and defeated the host Eckerd in a five set thriller to close out the tourney with a 2-2 record. SHU is now 6-2 on the season.
The Griffins took the first set over Colorado Christian by a 25-15 score. Colorado Christian responded with a 25-21 win in set two. CCU then took the third set by a 26-24 score and closed out the match with a 25-21 win.
Shelby Kyllo led the Griffins with 15 kills.
Abigail Malsch added 8 kills and
Cassie Hausfeld finished with 7. Kyllo finished with 5 blocks while
Jenna Sassack and
Maggie Murray added 4. Murray also had a match high 28 assists.
Lauren Teed had a match high 28 digs.
Eckerd took the first game from the Griffins by the score of 25-18. SHU answered with a 27-25 win. The Griffins took a 2-1 lead with a 26-24 victory. Eckerd sent the match to a fifth and deciding set with a 25-18 win. Seton Hill jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead on a kill and a block from
Shelby Kyllo and an ace from
Maggie Murray with an Eckerd error. Eckerd was able to cut the lead to 5-4 before SHU scored three straight points to take an 8-4 lead. A block from
Abigail Malsch gave SHU a 12-8 lead. Kyllo's kill gave SHU a match point and an error from Eckerd ended the match. Eckerd was undefeated on the weekend and did not lose a set until the Griffins match. Kyllo led with 10 kills.
Jenna Sassack added 9 and
Katie Wenson finished with 8. Kyllo added 5 blocks and
Emily Gilles added 3.
Brynn Fleury had 22 assists and Murray added 21. Teed led with 24 digs.
Seton Hill's
Lauren Teed and
Shelby Kyllo were both named to the All Tournament Team for the tournament. The full All Tourney Team follows:
