Box Score 2 Seton Hill took a break from the sun in St Petersburg, Florida with two matches at the Eckerd College Tournament on Friday. The Griffins opened up the tournament taking on UNC Pembroke in the first match of the day on Friday morning. After dropping the first set the Griffins won the next three for a 3-1 win over Pembroke. SHU then saw its five game winning streak come to an end with a five set loss to West Liberty on Friday evening. SHU falls to 5-1 overall.
Pembroke took the first set from the Griffins 25-21. SHU responded by taking the next three sets for the win. The Griffins won the second set 25-19, won the third 25-22 and closed out the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 16 kills.
Shelby Kyllo followed with 14 kills.
Abigail Malsch added 8 kills.
Brynn Fleury led the team with 32 assists. Fleury also had a match high 18 digs.
Lauren Teed added 16 digs.
Jenna Sassack and Hausfeld each had 2 blocks.
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead over the Hilltoppers with a 25-22 win in the first set. West Liberty then responded with two straight wins (25-21, 25-19) to take a 2-1 lead. SHU tied the match at two with a 25-21 win. Seton Hill took an early 3-1 lead in the fifth set. West Liberty then went on a 8-3 run to take a 9-6 lead. Back to back kills from Hausfeld and
Emily Gilles tied the set at 9. West Lib then took a 13-10 lead. Hausfeld and
Maggie Murray had kills that cut the lead to 13-12. A block from
Jenna Sassack and a kill from Hausfeld tied the set at 14. Murray retied the set at 15 with a kill before the Hilltoppers scored the final two points of the match for with a 17-15 win. Hausfeld had a team high 17 kills. Kyllo finished with 12 and Malsch added 11. Kyllo added 4 blocks and Teed had 26 kills.
Seton Hill will play two more matches at Eckerd tomorrow as they take on Colorado Christian and Eckerd.
