Mallory Sanner made history on Saturday afternoon as she became the first Seton Hill track and field athlete to earn four straight NCAA All American Awards. Sanner earned the award with a third place finish in the javelin at the 2015 NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships in Allendale, Michigan. Sophomore
Jessica Slagus earned her first All American Award with a second team All American Award after a tenth place finish.
Sanner opened the championships with a throw of 46.96m. She followed that with a throw of 49.10m in her second attempt of the preliminaries. Sanner's third throw set a new PR and a new PSAC record (50.53m). Mallory was second after the first flight and dropped to third entering the finals.
Slagus threw ninth in the second flight and opened with a PR throw of 43.92m. She followed that with another PR of 44.71m. Jessica's last throw of 43.35m was not good enough to qualify her for the finals as she finished in 10th place overall, just missing the finals by one spot. Slagus earned second team All American honors with the 10th place finish.
Sanner opened the finals with a throw of 48.26m. She followed with a throw of 46.79m and she remained third heading into the third and final throw of the finals. In her final throw, Mallory set a new PSAC and SHU record with a PR of 51.41m. The last throw kept her in third place and earned her a fourth All American Award. Sanner's throw is the 11th best throw all time in Division II.
Sanner earned her first All American award during her freshman season with a fifth place finish at nationals. As a sophomore she became the first Seton Hill athlete to earn a national championship with a first place finish in Pueblo, Colorado. She won the event with a throw of 49.43 meters. Last season, Mallory had a seventh place finish at nationals.
Allison Updike of Azusa Pacific won the national championship with a new meet record throw of 55.43 meters. That throw was the second best throw of all time in Division II history. Estefania Lopez of Fort Hays State was second with a throw of 52.03 meters. That throw was the eighth best throw ever in Division II.
