Seton Hill closed out their 2015 season with a crossover matchup at Bloomsburg's Redman Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 14 but the Huskies were able to drive inside the Griffins 10 yard line to set up a game winning 26 yard field goal with no time left on the clock and escape with a 17-14 win. SHU ends the season at 3-8 while the Huskies finish their season with a 7-4 mark.
Bloomsburg won the coin toss and defered to the second half. SHU started their first drive at the 25 yard line after a touchback on the opening kickoff. The Griffins went three and out on their first drive. Bloomsburg drove 68 yards in 13 plays for their first score of the game. The Huskies scored on a five yard touchdown pass to take a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. SHU drove to the Bloomsburg 34 yard line on their next drive but were forced to turn the ball over on downs after
Dan Pietrangelo was stopped on a 4th and 17 after a 13 yard run at the BU 21 yard line. The Griffin defense forced a punt from Bloomsburg on their next possession and drove to their own 46 yard line on the last play of the quarter.
The SHU drive stalled and
William Hodge pinned the Huskies at the own 13 yard line after a 48 yard punt. Bloom went three and out with the Griffins taking over at their own 39 yard line after a punt. SHU then drove 61 yards in nine plays to tie the score. Pietrangelo hit
Shane Leatherbury with a 23 yard pass on the drive. BU was called for pass interference in the end zone and
Khalil Howard scored from two yards out on the next play to tie the score at seven. Bloomsburg answered right back with a touchdown drive of their own to retake the lead. The Huskies drove 75 yards in 14 plays with a 1 yard touchdown run capping the drive and BU led 14-7 with 4:05 left in the half. SHU drove inside Bloomsburg territory on their next drive but turned the ball over with a fumble inside the Huskies ten yard line. After a BU punt, the Griffins
Jesser Boulnemour tried a 53 yard field goal on the final play of the half but it came up just short hitting the crossbar.
The Huskies drove into SHU territory on their first possession of the second half but
Tanelious Walton intercepted a BU pass at the Griffins 5 yard line and returned it to the SHU 20 yard line. SHU went three and out on their next possession. The Griffin defense then stopped the Huskies on a fourth and one at the BU 48 yard line. SHU was not able to do anything on their next possession and Hodge's punt was downed at the Bloomsburg 16. SHU got a stop and
Larry Joshua returned the punt 21 yards to the Griffin 46. SHU got to the BU 32 yard line but two straight incompletions ended the drive.
Robert Brown ended the next Huskie possession with an interception at the BU 41 yard line.
The Griffins got to the Bloomsburg 25 yard line but were forced to turn the ball over on downs. Both teams then exchanged punts and the Griffins took over on their 26 yard line with just over six minutes to play in the game. Howard and
Patrick Jackson rushed for first downs to open the drive. Passes from Pietranngelo to
KeDario Lewis of 10 yards and
Eric Brown for 12 yards moved the ball to the Huskies 26. After a penalty, Pietrangelo hit
Shane Leatherbury for 10 yards and capped the drive with a 15 yard touchdown pass to Joshua. Boulnemour's extra point tied the score at 14 with 2:21 to play. The defense forced a three and out and a punt. Joshua returned the punt to the 34 but an illegal block penalty pushed the Griffins back to the BU 24 yard line with 1:25 left. Three straight incompletions only used 23 seconds and the Griffins were forced to punt with Bloomsburg taking over at their own 44 with 1:02 left in the quarter. The Huskies used a 15 yard pass and a 17 yard run to move into field goal range and hit a game winning 26 yard field goal on the final play of the game for the win.
The stats from the game were nearly identical for both teams. SHU led in first downs 20-19. The Huskies held a 359-321 advantage in total yards.
Dan Pietrangelo finished the game 21-42 for 170 yards and 1 touchdown.
Patrick Jackson finished with 69 yards rushing.
