ERIE, Pa. - The Seton Hill University men's soccer team was unable to find their rhythm in a 3-0 loss to Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Wedensday at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
The Griffins are now 5-11-1 on the year and 3-7-0 in PSAC play. Mercyhurst moves to 8-7-1 overall and 8-1-1 in the PSAC.
After a scoreless first half, Thom Derks got the Lakers on the board with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute. Richard Vanhorne gave the home team a 2-0 lead in the 74th minute when Derks' pass got through the SHU defense. Vanhorne stuck again just five minutes later to put the game away for Mercyhurst.
Mercyhurst outshot Seton Hill, 10-9 (6-6 on-goal). The Griffins held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper
Cameron Evans played 78 minutes in goal in the loss for SHU, surrendering two goals and grabbing three saves. Reserve
Christian Roberts came in for relief of Evans and conceeded the final goal for the Griffins.
Seton Hill University will close out the 2015 season when they travel to West Chester University on Saturday, October 31st. That game is set to start at 11:00 AM.
