Box Score The Griffin women's basketball team closed out PSAC Crossover action when they hosted West Chester in the McKenna Center on Wednesday evening. West Chester defeated the Griffins by the score of 62-55. SHU falls to 5-9 overall and 2-7 in PSAC play.
West Chester scored the first 7 points of the contest to take a quick 7-0 lead. SHU cut the lead to 12-7 on a three pointer from
Meghan Mastroianni. West Chester then went on a 12-5 run over the next six minutes to build their lead up to 24-12 with just over ten minutes remaining in the half. The Golden Rams continued to hold their 12 point lead when
Halie Torris hit back to back three pointers to cut the lead to 33-27 with 2:34 left in the first half. The Golden Rams took a 37-29 lead into the halftime break.
West Chester led 49-37 with 11:38 remaining in the half before SHU went on a run to cut into the lead. Eight straight points from
Cha Cha Williams put the Griffins back to within four at 49-45 with 9:09 left in the second half.
Chelsea Apke made it 51-47 with a layin at the 8:39 mark of the second half. The Griffins then went cold from the floor, not scoring for nearly the next six minutes. The good thing for the Griffins was that West Chester only scored two points over that same timeframe. West Chester was able to build their lead back to 60-51 on 6 free throws with less than a minute to play.
Lindsey Mifsud hit a three to trim the lead to 60-54 with 20 seconds left but West Chester hit two free throws to put the game away.
Cha Cha Williams led the Griffins with 14 points.
Halie Torris added 11 points off the bench.
Mariah Wells finished with 8 points.
Chelsea Apke added 4 points and 10 rebounds. The Griffins shot just 31% from the floor compared to 42% for West Chester. SHU forced 24 Golden Ram turnovers but scored just 11 points off those turnovers. The Griffins also won the battle on the boards by a 47-40 margin.
Seton Hill will return to PSAC West action on Saturday when they host Clarion. Tip is set for 1 PM.
